Church

At St John the Baptist Leytonstone, the entrance to the church was 2m above ground level. The brief was to come up with a way of enabling easy access for all abilities without compromising the sense of entrance or the church façade. The resulting ramp compliments the church rather than feeling like an add-on. It provides not only easy access for wheelchair users, but also for prams, buggies, parents with young children, the elderly and mobile persons, thereby opening up the building for the whole community and evolving the life within the church. The mid-terrace is also utilised during local festivals and the church has become part of the revival of positive community activity.
