Public Projects
Finchingfield Guildhall
Kay Pilsbury Thomas was appointed as Architects for the conversion of this Grade I listed Medieval Guildhall into a community building. The Guildhall is to be a focal point for the Village with Museum, Library and large hall space which will be available for hire by local groups. The project has been awarded a round two Heritage Lottery Grant and also an English Heritage Repair Grant, to see the project through to completion, the last match funding is coming together but we still need local support and donations to ensure we can start the repairs, so please help by going to the Guildhalls website:
The conservation of the oak frame building will involve highly skilled craftsmanship and design. The initial opening-up on site has revealed some old arch doorways. We are proposing to show these, and the crown post roof throughout the hall, off. Our design also incorporates replacing the old mullioned and leaded windows which were discovered and the exterior walls will have the traditional zig zag plaster pargetting pattern we found on the buildings in old photographs.
